Deny Line 5 Water resources permit. Tell Whitmer and Roos:
don't back down!

Mackinac Bridge

More than 800 people have already sent letters! We know Whitmer and Roos are listening. We also know that your voice matters. We can’t let up. Send your letter now! Enbridge just submitted the Water Resources Permit days ago. The time to act is now!

The Great Lakes are a global treasure, home to more than 20% of the world’s fresh surface water and serving as the lifeblood of our region. They provide drinking water for more than 40 million people, support a $6 trillion regional economy, and fuel industries like recreation, fishing, and shipping that are vital to Michigan’s prosperity.

But this incredible resource is at risk. Enbridge’s proposed Line 5 tunnel threatens to pollute the very waters that sustain us, endangering local fisheries, compromising water quality, and putting one of the most ecologically and culturally significant regions in the world in harm’s way.

Enbridge recently filed their Wetlands Permit, but the application is woefully incomplete. Instead of cataloging all of the impacts of the project on the Great Lakes, the permit simply focuses on the north and south ends of the proposed tunnel. We know that Enbridge has an obligation to include the impacts to the Great Lakes bottomlands in the application, and we are now asking EGLE to expand their scope of review.

This decision is a turning point for the Great Lakes and Michigan’s future. We need Governor Whitmer and EGLE Director Phil Roos to take a firm stand and ensure the permit scope is sufficient to protect our waters, ecosystems, and communities from the risks posed by Enbridge’s dangerous track record. Plus, they must ensure a public comment period that allows for strong public scrutiny of the proposal.

Your voice is essential. By taking action now, we can build the public pressure needed to safeguard our Great Lakes and ensure this flawed and unnecessary project doesn’t move forward. Together, we can hold our leaders accountable to protect Michigan’s most precious resource.

Please use our letter template at right to personalize and email your message now. Thank you for taking action to protect a way of life and a precious place!
